Getting started
What is ChessKindle?+
ChessKindle connects people who want to learn or improve at chess with tutors who fit their goals, level, schedule and budget. Learners can browse tutors, send a request, compare proposals, pay for an agreed class package and attend their lessons.
Who can use ChessKindle?+
ChessKindle is designed for complete beginners, improving players, casual enthusiasts and competitive learners. Adults can book for themselves, while a parent or guardian can arrange classes for a child or another learner in their care.
Where is ChessKindle available?+
The initial launch experience is designed for users in Nigeria. Prices and payments are shown in Nigerian naira, and class times are displayed in West Africa Time unless the product states otherwise.
Is ChessKindle a chess school?+
ChessKindle is a platform that helps learners find and book independent chess tutors. Each tutor has their own experience, areas of expertise, availability and teaching approach.
For learners
How do I find and book a tutor?+
You can either browse tutor profiles and send a request to a particular tutor, or create an open request that suitable tutors can respond to. Review the tutor or proposal, confirm the class plan, then pay securely once you have chosen a tutor.
What is the difference between a direct request and an open request?+
A direct request is sent to one tutor you selected from their profile. An open request describes what you need without choosing a tutor first; verified tutors who may be suitable can respond with proposals for you to compare.
What is a tutor proposal?+
A proposal is a tutor's response to an open request. It shows the tutor's proposed rate, class format, meeting method, dates and times, along with a short explanation of how they can help. Review the full proposal before choosing.
How should I compare tutor proposals?+
Check the tutor's verified status, rating, experience, three displayed skill tags, proposed schedule, meeting method and total class cost. A lower price is useful, but the tutor's suitability and availability should also match the learner's needs.
What happens after I choose a tutor proposal?+
ChessKindle closes the open request to the other tutors and shows the selected proposal in the payment review. Your classes become active only after the agreed amount is paid and the transaction is confirmed.
What happens if a tutor declines my direct request?+
You are not charged. You can return to the tutor directory and send a new request, or create an open request so that other suitable tutors can respond.
Can I contact a tutor before booking?+
No. The current learner experience does not provide direct tutor contact. Requests, proposals, class details and confirmed meeting information are handled through ChessKindle.
What does 'current learning level' mean?+
It describes the learner's ability now—not the level they hope to reach. Choose Beginner for rules and basic play, Intermediate for learners who can play complete games, or Advanced for deeper competitive improvement. This helps tutors plan lessons at the right difficulty.
What do the tags on a tutor profile mean?+
The three displayed tags are strengths the tutor deliberately chose to highlight. They may describe core chess expertise, learner suitability, teaching style or availability. The full profile provides more detail.
Who can take the classes I book?+
Choose 'Myself' when the account holder is learning. Choose 'A child or learner in my care' when arranging classes for one other person. The request should contain the actual learner's correct age group and learning level.
Can I manage classes for several children?+
Not in the current MVP. A request can be created for one learner at a time, and the product does not yet include separate profiles for multiple children or dependants.
Can I have classes with more than one tutor at the same time?+
No. Only one tutor package can be active at a time. You can explore or save tutors, but you must complete the current package before starting another package with a different tutor.
What happens after the final class?+
The package is marked complete and you can review the tutor. You may then rebook the same tutor or choose a different tutor for another package.
For tutors
How do I become a ChessKindle tutor?+
Complete the tutor onboarding process with accurate identity, chess experience, teaching background, availability and pricing information. Your profile becomes available to learners after the required ChessKindle review is completed.
What information appears on my tutor profile?+
A profile can show your name, location, rating, experience, lesson price, biography, learning levels taught, teaching strengths, availability and selected profile tags. Keep every claim accurate and current.
How do tutor skill tags work?+
During onboarding, choose the relevant skills that describe your expertise and approach. Then deliberately select the three tags you want learners to see first. The system should not choose those three display tags on your behalf.
What types of tags can tutors choose?+
Tags are organised around core chess expertise, learner suitability, and teaching style or convenience.
How do I respond to an open request?+
Review the learner's level, goals, class quantity, session type, meeting preference, budget and preferred schedule. Respond only when you can meet the important requirements, and make any alternative dates or terms clear in your proposal.
What happens when a learner sends me a direct request?+
Review the complete request and either accept or decline it. Accept only when the proposed class plan fits your expertise and availability. The learner proceeds to payment after acceptance.
Can a tutor propose a different schedule?+
A tutor proposal may clearly suggest alternative dates and times before payment. The learner must be able to distinguish an exact schedule match from an alternative proposal and review it before choosing.
Can tutors contact learners directly?+
Do not request or use a learner's private contact details outside the approved ChessKindle flow. Necessary class and meeting details become available when a package is confirmed.
How should tutors set their prices?+
Set a clear price per 60-minute class during onboarding and keep it current. Proposals should show the per-class rate, number of classes and total so learners can make an informed decision.
How do tutor payouts work?+
When a learner's payment is confirmed, the transaction is linked to the class package. Payout status and any applicable conditions should be shown in the tutor dashboard and governed by the Tutor Terms provided during onboarding.
When can a learner review a tutor?+
The learner is invited to review the tutor after the final class in the package. Reviews should reflect the completed learning experience and help future learners make informed choices.
Classes & scheduling
How many classes can be booked?+
You can use the quick options for 1, 4 or 8 classes, or use the class counter to choose another number such as 3, 5 or 7. The schedule and estimated total update to match the chosen quantity.
Safety & accounts
What does the verified tutor badge mean?+
A verified badge indicates that the tutor completed the required ChessKindle review for the launch experience. It does not guarantee a particular learning result, so learners should still review the tutor's profile and proposal carefully.
How is an in-person address handled?+
The learner enters a desired address for an in-person request. An open request should initially reveal only the general area to potential tutors; the complete address is shared only as needed with the selected tutor after confirmation.
What should I do if information on a profile or request is incorrect?+
Do not proceed with the booking. Report the inaccurate information to ChessKindle support and include the relevant tutor, request or proposal reference.
How do I report a safety or conduct concern?+
Stop the interaction or class if necessary and contact ChessKindle support promptly. Include the class or request reference and a clear factual description. For an immediate emergency, contact the appropriate local emergency service.
What details should I include when contacting support?+
Include your account email and the relevant request, proposal, class or payment reference. Explain what happened, when it happened and the outcome you need. Do not send passwords, PINs, OTPs or full card details.
Still need help?
Send ChessKindle support the details of your question. Include a request, proposal or payment reference when relevant.
